Research on Developmental Biology of Myrmeleon ferrugineipennis (Neuroptera: Myrmeleontidae)

Abstract:Myrmeleon ferrugineipennis Bao & Wang is complete metamorphosis insect. M. ferrugineipennis has annually one generation in Guizhou province. The larva of all instars is able to overwinter at late November and awake at March of the next year. Breeding in laboratory, it takes 13 d±0.56 d from eggs to hatch, 63.58 d±1.81 d from larvae to imago, 26.35 d±1.14 d from pupae to eclosion, the adult could live for 20 d±1.06 d. The morphological characters at instars of M. ferrugineipennis were described, and thebehaviors of pit-building, predation, ecdysis, pupation, eclosion of larva, predation and mating of imago were observed in laboratory as well as field investigation.
