Primary survey on the relative fatness and population of Rana limnocharis lived in Shanghai suburb farm

Abstract:The population number and relative fatness of Rana limnocharis in suburb of Shanghai was studied during April to October in 2005.Based on the statistics of weight, SVL and relative fatness of the rice frog among different months and age groups, the result showed that the relative fatness varied significantly with different months and ages. The frogs showed highest relative fatness in May the month before the breeding season of the frogs, and the lowest was in August after breeding season .Kwl became higher with the ages increasing, and K became lower with increasing ages. Compared among age groups, the result showed two age frogs had the fastest growth rate. In the survey year, the population number showed two peaks after twice breeding in June and August. Life stage in a year was made of feeding, breeding, feeding and hibernation. Because Kwl was more sensitive than K in statistics,. it is reasonable to use both of the two index to study the relative fatness of amphibian.
