Abstract:Anatomical and histological structure of digestive system of Botia reevesae was studied. The results showed that B. reevesae is a typical stomach-possessing fish with a U-shaped stomach. Its digestive tract is relatively short, being 1.02±0.05 times of its body length. Taste buds in the mucous layer of pharynx are developed. Only annular striped muscle is present in the muscle layer of esophagus and longitudinal muscle lacks. The stomach comprises of three portions: cardia, blind sac and pylorus. Gastric glands are observed just in cardiac stomach. The inner annular smooth muscle layer is very thick in fundic stomach, and the muscle layer of pyloric stomach is formed by longitudinal-annular-longitudinal three layers. Sphincter pylori are developed in the end of the pyloric stomach. The various sections of the intestine are not significantly different in their histological structure. Liver is divided in two pieces and the left one is more developed. The pancreas tissues scatter in mesenterium around liver, spleen, stomach and intestine or disperse into liver along blood vessel.
