Distrbution and Morphological Observation of Argentaffine Cells in Digestive Tract of Arattus norvegicus

The silver nitrate method of Grimelius was used to study the distributed density and morphology of argyrophil cells in the digestive tract of Arattus norvegicus. The results shows: there are no argyrophil cells in esophagus, but distributing widely in the other place of digestive tract. The distributed density of argyrophil cells is the highest in pyloric part and the lowest in ileum. The cells are found in between epithelial cells, at the bottom of epithelial cell, between glandular epithelial cells, a few in the epithelium basal portion and membrana propria. The shapes of argyrophil cells are diverse and they are mainly cone shape, besides them, there are round, shuttle and ellipse. According to the morphology of argyrophil cells, we suggest that argyrophil cells in the digestive tract of Arattus norvegicus have endocrine, exocrine, paracrine functions..
