Abstract:By taking a random sample or scanning, a preliminary study on the diet habit and spatial niche of Pycnonotus xanthorrhous was conducted in Qujing City (103°14′~ 103°37′ E, 25°41′~25°52′ N) of Yunnan Province. The results were as follows: P. xanthorrhous was mainly fed among arbors, crowns of trees, and bushes. The rate of feeding among arbors was the highest, reaching 62.96%; the second and third rates were 15.64% among crowns of trees and 12.74% among bushes. Though P. xanthorrhous was an omnivorous bird in autumn and winter, it was primarily fed on plants and the rate reached 97.6%, while the rate of animal food was only 2.4%.
