Effect of BBP, DBP, BPA and NP on Gonadal Development of Chicken Embryos

Abstract: Diethylstilbestrol (DES) can induce feminization of chicken embryos. Butyl benzyl phthalate (BBP), Dibutyl phthalate (DBP), Bisphenol A (BPA), and Nonyl Phenol (NP) are suspect as environmental hormones. In order to test whether BBP, DBP, BPA, and NP have the same female hormonal effect as DES, in the present study, BBP, DBP, BPA, and NP were injected into fertile chicken eggs at different doses and then the gonadal development of chicks observed. The results show that BBP increased the weight of ovaries but that DBP, BPA, and NP. BBP, DBP, BPA, and NP did not have obvious effects on gonadal development in the birds and did not induce feminization of chicken embryos.
