Primary Study on Anti-hypoxia Activity of Bassia rapa L. Extract in Mice

Abstract:
The effect of Bassia rapaL. extract on anti-hypoxia was investigated. Using distilled water as a blank control and propranolol hydrochlorideas a positive control, the survival time of mice in hypoxia under ordinary pressures, and with acute cerebral ischemia and sodium nitrite were used to evaluate the anti-hypoxic effect of three different doses (10, 15, 20 g/kg) of 65%, 95% alcohol extract andwater extract of Bassia rapa L. Erythrocyte number and hemoglobin count were used to investigate the anti-hypoxic effect of 65%, 95% alcohol extract andwater extract (10 g/kg) of Bassia rapa L. The result indicates that Bassia rapa L. 65%, 95% alcohol extract andwater extract can prolong the survival time of mice in hypoxia under ordinary pressures significantly. It can also prolong the survival time of mice with acute cerebral ischemia and sodium nitrite significantly, and increase the number of erythrocytes and the content of hemoglobin. It demonstrates that Bassia rapa L. extract has anti-hypoxia activity.
