Composition and Diversity of Small Mammals in China Panda Valley, Dujiangyan, Sichuan Province

Abstract:China Panda Valley is a new place for the training and releasing giant panda into the wild. However, no report was available on the information of small mammals in this area. Five investigations of small mammals were conducted from 2010 to 2014 in China Panda Valley, Dujiangyan, Sichuan province. The results showed that: 1) a total of 238 individuals were captured with 2243 traps (capture rate: 10.6%), and these individuals were belonged to 2 orders, 3 families, 8 genera and 13 species, meanwhile, Niviventer confucianus, Anourosorex squamipes and Eothenomys melanogaster were the three dominant species; 2) on the basis of local community types, the capture rate of the derelict land community (11.73%) was significantly higher than that of the secondary mixed forest (8.98%); 3) Species diversity index of the derelict land community (H=0.670) was similar to that of the secondary forest (H=0.677), however, the number of species in the derelict land was much higher than that in the secondary forest; 4) The amount of small mammals was significantly reduced during the period of investigation.
