Abstract:Rana nigromaculata is one of the most widely distributed amphibians in China. The embryo development of R. nigromaculata from Shenyang was observed under microscope and the characteristics was described in detail. The results showed that, at 19~20℃, the embryo development would take 258.66 hours and was divided into 26 phases from fertilized eggs to operculum completion stage with independent escape theca stage. The length of the embryo body was 10.315 mm±0.893 mm. The characteristics of R. nigromaculata embryo development of this study is quite different from previously reported, which may due to the different population genetic composition, specific ecological environment, water quality, or illumination, etc.
