Abstract:Objective To investigate the protective effect of Chitosanoligosaccharide (COS) on acute renal failure (ARF) rabbits and the changes of hemorheology. Methods 24 male rabbits were randomly divided into four groups: ARF+NS group, ARF+COS group, NS+NS group and NS+COS group. COS -induced acute renal failure in rabbits was employed. 48 hours later, blood urea nitrogen (BUN) and creatinine (Cre), as well as malondialdehyde (MDA), reduced glutathione (SOD) in renal cortex homogenate were measured in vivo. Meanwhile, the changes of each hemorheologieal index were detected. Results Compared with ARF+NS group, in ARF+COS group, the serum concentration of BUN and Cre were reduced significantly (P<0.01); the level of MDA in renal cortex homogenate significantly decreased (P<0.01), SOD activity markedly increased (P<0.05); Hemorheology showed an obvious decrease of high shear blood viscosity (Hηb), low shear blood viscosity (Lηb), plasma viscosity (ηP), erythrocyte sedimentation rate (ESR), blood reduction viscosity (ηre), erythrocyte aggregation index (EAI) and erythrocyte sedimentation rate K (ESRK) (P<0.01), however, no statistical significance was observed in the variation of Hct (P>0.05). Conclusion Our results indicated that COS may have a strong renal protecting effect against HgC12-induced acute renal failure which provided a new evidence of COS’s clinical utility.
