Abstract:

Oral ulcer and purulent secreta samples of 7 captive sharp-snouted pit vipers were collected from two snake farms in Huangshan (Auhui province, China). The result of bacteria isolation and identification suggested that Staphylococcus aureus and Pseudomonas aeruginosa were the primary pathogens. Antibiotic susceptibility test showed that these strains were sensitive to ceftriaxone and gentamicin. The cure rate would reach up to 87.5% by combined use of these antibiotics and enhanced feeding management and regular disinfection.
