Acute Toxicity of Ammonia-N on Different Growth Stages of Fiddler Crab Uca arcuata(de Haan, 1835)

The acute toxicity test of ammonia-N on the fiddler crab (Uca arcuata) was studied under specific conditions (pH8.09, 28±1, salinity of 5‰). The results showed that the 96 h median lethal concentrations of ammonia-N on U. arcuata at three growth stages (the carapace width less than 1.5 cm, 1.5 cm, 1.5~2.5 cm) were 47.28 mg·L-1, 71.49 mg·L-1and 90.57 mg·L-1 , respectively (P0.01). And the corresponding non-ionic ammonia-N concentrations were 3.71 mg·L-1, 5.61 mg·L-1 and 7.11 mg·L-1. The safety concentrations were 4.73 mg·L-1, 7.15 mg·L-1and 9.06 mg·L-1. The corresponding non-ionic ammonia concentrations were 0.37 mg·L-1, 0.56 mg·L-1 and 0.71 mg·L-1. Significant positive correlation was observed between the ammonia-N concentration, maintained time and toxicity. The sequence of tolerance was the carapace width 1.5~2.5 cm1.5 cmless than 1.5 cm.
